“Versiona Thyssen” is a creative competition by the Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza inviting contemporary reinterpretations of classic artworks from their collection.
For my submission, I reimagined Christoph Amberger’s Portrait of Matthäus Schwarz (1542), exploring modern China’s displays of geopolitical and economic power as a contemporary echo of Renaissance Europe’s demonstrations of authority and status.
